Grade twelve university English required?

Should all university programs require a grade twelve university English credit?

Different university programs have different requirements. Whether you want to go into working with children or making machinery or teaching a classroom one day you have a required amount of courses you have to take in high school in order to even be considered for those programs in university.

The discussion today is, "should grade twelve university English be required by all university programs?" In my opinion, I do not think that all university programs should require the university English course in grade twelve. Although I do think that the grade twelve university English courses do the most in teaching crucial skills such as how to write essays beyond the five paragraph and properly analyze pieces of literature as opposed to the other English courses, I don't think it should be required by each and every university program.

While I do find the course to be necessary for those entering social science programs, creative writing programs or even teaching programs it, in my opinion, is not broad enough of subject matter to be required to apply and enter all programs in post secondary. 

Skills such as the ones mentioned before are definitely crucial in certain fields and programs but not as necessary in ones like computer and web design. While the grade twelve university English course is a good course, it is not a necessity for all programs especially those that are more technologically based.

If university English in grade twelve were required by all university programs then those students entering grade twelve with the hopes of attending university would have even more limited options as to which courses they can take. As opposed to being able to choose courses that strictly apply to the field they are interested in the mandatory English course would take up a spot on the already limited time tables. 

While those students with the credit would automatically have a greater advantage over their peers who did not take grade twelve university English, I don't think that the course should be mandatory for all university programs nor should it be a mandatory credit in order to graduate high school.
